500 New Jobs in $10 Million Investment by Arrotek Medical Parent Company Theragenics in Costa Rica

The state-of-the-art facility will produce high-precision and complex medical device components

June 12, 2024

Medical device company Theragenics is creating 500 new jobs over the next five years as part of a USD$10 million investment in its new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica. The new plant will manufacture specialist medical needles, guidewires, and other components for minimally invasive medical devices.

Construction of the new 4,000-square-metre facility in the Coyol Free Zone started in April 2024. The plant, which includes 2,000 square meters of production floor and a 1,000 square meter cleanroom built to Class 8 standards, is expected to be fully operational by Q2, 2025.

The new facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment and technologies. It will have the capabilities and capacity to produce high-precision and often complex components for leading medical device products.

Christian Segura, Site Leader at the Theragenics Costa Rica facility, said work to get the new plant operational is on schedule.

Christian added, “This is an exciting time for Theragenics as we expand our operations in Latin America, but it is also an exciting time for Costa Rica as this will be the first medical needle manufacturing facility in the country.

“High precision specialty medical needles are crucial components for many minimally invasive medical devices. In fact, needles are becoming even more important as medical device products get smaller and more complex.

“This makes needles a rapidly growing market in the medical device industry. The new Theragenics facility that we are building in Costa Rica will be at the forefront of global needle production and supply.”

Fantastic Skills and Established Infrastructure

Mark Pugh, CEO of Theragenics, welcomed the start of construction, adding he was looking forward to expanding the Theragenics team in Costa Rica.

Mark commented, “When we were looking for the location of our new manufacturing facility, Costa Rica was the obvious choice because of the fantastic skills and established infrastructure. As our new facility is in the Coyol Free Zone, we will be at the epicenter of Costa Rica’s thriving medical device industry.

“At Theragenics, we have a strong track record and industry reputation for designing and manufacturing high-quality minimally invasive medical device components and products for a wide range of customers, from the world’s largest life sciences organizations to OEMs to customers in the healthcare sector.

“We are also an ambitious and innovative company that continuously pushes boundaries, developing solutions that exceed the expectations of our customers. Our new Costa Rica manufacturing facility is central to our growth strategy, and I am looking forward to working with the growing team.”

Exciting Career Opportunities

The opening of the new Theragenics facility will create 500 new, high-quality jobs over the next five years in the Coyol Free Zone region, with recruitment for different positions starting immediately.

Christian said, “The new roles we are creating at Theragenics Costa Rica are a fabulous opportunity for experienced medical device industry professionals to advance their careers.

“My advice to anyone in the industry is to look at the vacancies we currently offer and to check back regularly as recruitment is ongoing. Your existing skills will be transferrable, and you will learn new skills, expanding your knowledge and experience.

“You will also be working in a modern production environment manufacturing cutting-edge products that make a real difference in operating theatres, cath labs, and similar surgical facilities around the world.

“Plus, with the company’s ambitious growth plans, there are exciting opportunities to take your career to the next level.”

Ends.
